Some trace elements can be lost by chemical reaction when mixed with other fertilizers. Chelating the reactive trace elements Copper (Cu), Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn) and Zinc (Zn) prevents this reaction and consequent loss of the nutrients. Chelated micronutrients remain available in concentrated solution with other fertilizer nutrients. Iron (Fe) is the most reactive micronutrient and is invariably used in chelated form. There are many types of chelate according to the use situation.

 It is convenient to use a pre-blended mix of trace elements in the correct ratio. This means there is only a single product to measure and dose instead of six individual products.
