Plants take up most of their nutrients through their roots, but if the roots are not working well due to compaction, drought, temperature, disease or deficiency then foliar feeding can be beneficial. For example, when crops come out of the winter and try to grow away in the spring, a foliar feed can give them a kick-start and is often applied with other agricultural chemicals in the spray tank.
Micronutrients are required in small quantities and foliar application is often the simplest way to prevent or correct deficiencies.
